Aloha! My name is Melissa Honeycutt and I am the owner of Big Island Pelvic Health, LLC. I have my Doctorate in Physical Therapy with a specialty in Pelvic Floor Rehab and Women’s Health. I am delighted to inform you about the pelvic floor and orthopedic services I provide at Hilo Natural Health Clinic. My mission is to provide this very special therapy to the community of Hilo and the Big Island of Hawaii!
I was born and raised in Rhode Island, where I attended school at the University of Rhode Island. I received my Doctorate in 2011 and have worked in many different areas of physical therapy since then. Almost 2 years ago, my family and I moved to the Big Island, in hopes to pursue our life dreams and continue our passion to help people in our specialties. Originally, we migrated to Kona side and the, most recently, transplanted permanently in Hilo, Hawaii.
My training consists of hospital inpatient, outpatient, nursing -home, sports medicine, and outpatient orthopedics. I pursued my passion for women’s health and pelvic floor training in Boston, Massachusetts, through the Herman and Wallace Institute, and then continued with a fabulous mentorship with intelligent and compassionate experts in this specialty. I have been focused in this area of PT for the past 2 years, continuing my passion to learn and the love for helping individuals regain control over their conditions and better themselves whole-heartedly!
Pelvic floor rehabilitation is a very special and private area of physical therapy. Research in this sub-specialty consistently demonstrates the benefits to both women and men suffering from disorders of the pelvis and related structures. The American Physical Therapy Association states, “physical therapists can help people experiencing pelvic pain restore strength and flexibility in the pelvic region, and reduce their pain”.
Although my passion is treating clients in this specialty, I am also knowledgeable in the general orthopedic and sports field. I have experience and training in this area and enjoy helping people regain their independence and improve their overall quality of life!
I believe that each person should be provided with individualized, hands-on treatments with education in teaching them independent management of their conditions. Please feel free to contact me with questions or to discuss this content in further depth. I am looking forward to becoming more involved in the Hilo community and helping each client regain their confidence and best self!
